Subways and Snapshots

I use Boston public transportation just about every day of the week. Armed with my monthly T passes, I spend a lot of time shouldering my way onto overcrowded B trains, running to catch a ride just as the car doors are closing, and occasionally resting my eyes for a a few moments only to realize I've missed my stop and I have somehow ended up at Park Street when I should have exited at Copley. Most of my T trips involve being shoved against too many strangers or standing just a little too close to that guy who smells a bit...off. I look forward to those rare days when the car is relatively empty and I can find a seat. This photo collection put together by the New York Times is a survey of such moments from 1910 to present day. They capture the hustle and bustle of commuters, the quiet moments of waiting, and the comings and goings of various strangers who are together for a short period of time before scattering in all directions. If you've ever been on a subway, you might enjoy these snapshots of moments that are unique to the wonderful ride that is public transportation.
