Rosy Rosen

I moved into a new house a few months ago, and as a housewarming present to myself, I started to subscribe to the Boston Sunday Globe. Unfortunately, It sounds like I may be single-handedly supporting them right now. While my parents were never big newspaper readers, there is something about having the paper waiting on my front porch when I wake-up Sunday mornings, and then having it lie around the house all day. I love the smell. I love the texture. It helps make our little fixer-upper feel more like a home.
Oh, and I enjoy reading the paper, particularly the Boston Globe Magazine where I saw a glimpse of Kim Rosen's work. She's an illustrator, not a writer, but who can deny that looking at images is sometimes just as important as the content that accompanies them. I just love her organic line weight and how she maximizes a limited color palette on each piece, somehow turning salmon pinks and blood-reds into neutrals. Her self-promotion piece with the knit hats is just dreamy, combining my all of my favorite things: knitting, collage and illustration. I hope the Globe keeps her busy, so I have an extra bonus to look forward to on Sunday mornings.
