Font Conference

We know we're geeks. We know that it's lame to love typefaces, and its weird to discuss colors in terms of 3 numbers preceded by the letters PMS. We're just glad to know their are others out there with the same issues. Thanks, Cara.

Design and Democracy

"Earlier this year, the United States Election Assistance Commission distributed guidelines created by professional designers to 6,000 local election officials. And recently, the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law issued a report outlining the importance of well-designed, easy to understand ballots. This interactive feature identifies common design problems found on optical-scan ballots from previous presidential elections and shows ways to improve clarity and vote accuracy based on the commission’s new guidelines." –How Design Can Save Democracy by Richard GrefĂ© and Jessica Friedman Hewitt

Pinkergreen is lucky to be a part of the Boston Main Streets projects. We are contracted by the city to work on business and community revitalization in and around Boston in mid to low-level income neighborhoods. The work is a blast, and ranges from designing installations and banners, to signs for up and coming businesses.
So, when I stumbled upon this promotion via Willamette Week for the Gorge Grown Farmer's Market outside of Portland, I was blown away by the creativity. Designed pro-bono by Owen Jones and Partners and assembled by the farmers themselves, for a mere $1,800. Great price…unless you're running a farmer's market. Such a clever solution, and great use of materials! I'm in love and hungry! Thanks to the PR stint, their farmer's market sold out and they ended up doubling vendors for the following week to keep up with the demand.
Bravo!

Heller Yeah.

Somehow I've been subscribed to a new daily newsletter. I'm never sure how this happens, but it does and it usually pisses me off. However, when I started receiving The Daily Heller from Print a few weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the relevant and fresh topics. Turns out it is written by Steven Heller who has been writing for Print since I was 3. So I guess he knows a thing or two. Anyway, I know Pinkergreen is probably your favorite design blog, but you might want to sign up for this newsletter on the off-chance that we happen to miss a day blogging and you miss out on your daily dose of inspiration.
