Back to Basics

I pretty much live in black cotton T shirts.. As such, I am looking forward to stocking up on American Apparel clothing. Hopefully I can break my color rut!
I have my eye on: Long Leg Warmers in Peacock, Interlock Wrap Dress in Eggplant, Mesh Running Short in Gold/Burgundy, Unisex Flex Zip Hoodie in Cranberry, Thigh High Socks in Black/White, Baby Rib Pocket Frock in Royal Blue.

Colombian Baked Beans.

While I may not relate to all the articles in ESPN the Magazine, it is a constant fixture in my bathroom at home. This morning while perusing the over-sized pages, I came across a spread, "What Happens in Vegas…" illustrated by Leo Espinosa. Turns out he's a Colombian transplant living in Boston and runs Studio Espinosa with his wife Laura. While his portfolio includes everything from Swatch® watch designs to "Neo-Comic" illustrations, I am particularly fond of this treatment of the white fur coat in this image. I'd love to have the opportunity to work with them someday, but for now, I'll just bookmark the site and blog for some ongoing inspiration.

paper art

Every time we get a copy of Real Simple, we look for Matthew Sporzynski's "paper constructions".

Little Miss Sunshine

Here's a little sunshine for a wintry weekend.

Georgia Verey

British artist Georgia Verey is one of my favorite painters. Classically trained in Boston and Bristol(UK), much of her work features anthropomorphic animals painted with dead seriousness—John Singer Sargent meets Beatrix Potter. These oil paintings entitled "Amelia" and "Swan in Pink" feature that signature cheeky style I so enjoy.

Zapp!

A friend recommended we look at this New York photographer. Although Carl Zapp's web site is light on content, the opening image struck a chord with me... can you guess why?

Carnevale

Tonight is the last night of Carnevale. These photos by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott from W Magazine capture the mystery and glamour of our most favorite city.

George and Martha

I recently stumbled across James Marshall's adorable George and Martha books. These illustrations are from One Fine Day and Tons of Fun. They were a childhood favorite and you can only guess why...

happy new year

This sunday is Chinese New Year... The Year of the Boar(Pig). These Chinese paper cuts by Wan Zhiping caught my eye.
Wan Art's Lunar Babies Framed Prints are sweet. I like the piggy even more because of it's palette.

Boston Printmakers Biennal

This Sunday the Boston Printmaker's Biennal opens at Boston University's Stone Gallery, 808 Commonwealth Avenue. This is a great show, and a great venue for purchasing art if you're in the market. Deborah Cornell, who's digital intaglio, Flight, is shown above, was a favorite professor of mine and continues to produce an excellent body of work.
If you don't have the budget for professional prints, you should still consider going. There is a juried show put on by Arches which features excellent work by New England art students, most for sale at great prices. Who knows that student could become the next big thing!

TROMPE L'OEIL

I found this "coat rack" by French Designers 5.5 (cinq cinq) at Urban Outfitters. I love its quirky simplicity. Talk about a space saver...

Turkey is good.

A friend (thanks Jess!) sent this image of a great shopping bag for YKM, a Turkish department store. The shopping bag was designed by the Turkish design agency, TBWA\ISTANBUL and received several European design awards. If you can't tell from the photo, the jump rope is also the bag handle. Ingenious! Why is everything in Europe so cool?

Gift Wrap for Lovers

These gift wraps from Whimsy Press "will make even the cutest stuffed animal seem less sappy". Whimsy wraps are double-sided–which makes them doubly cool. My Valentine favorites were Inked Up and Shanghai Holiday ($4.50/sheet).

Fall 2007 Color Trends

Pantone has released their Fall 2007 Color Trend report. Although the Shale Green should be my favorite, I can't stop staring at Lemon Curry. Not only does it sound good enough to eat, it looks it too! Check out the full report at Pantone and see which fashion designer you'll be wearing this fall.
